heres a patch adding -V: search options.
hopefully the pod explains how its useful.
9 new tests cover the new -V searches

downsides:

1. older perls wont have it, extra colons wont do same there,
queries will fail, and the colon will be nearly invisible in the answer.

    cc:='UNKNOWN'

It gets worse if you use leading colon

$ ./perl -Ilib -V::Bork
'UNKNOWN';

at least when arg is recognized as regex, but param isnt found,
the arg is echoed back, despite the leading colon (stripping name=)

$ ./perl -Ilib -V::Bork.
Bork.: not found;

2. quote char is ', which wont? work for embedding in a windows shell.
This is fixable, assuming the right criteria is available, which I dont
know.
IIUC, it depends on OS, version, shell, file-system? Bill's bank acct, etc..

Upsides:

convenience.
previously working queries work the same.
Larry gets the colon. (Im not sure this is what he had in mind ;-)
