This is a bug report for perl from blino@mandrake.org,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.34 running under perl v5.8.3.

[Please enter your report here]
If a program opened through a piped open exits with a non-zero code,
close doesn't return false when this pipe is closed.
It doesn't behave as described in perlfunc manpage :
If the file handle came from a piped open "close" will addi-
tionally return false if one of the other system calls involved
fails or if the program exits with non-zero status.
(by the way, this sentence is quite hard to understand, please add a
comma before "close")
Here's an example from debugger :
DB<1> p `cat ./foo.sh`
exit 6
DB<2> open FOO, "./foo.sh |"; while (<FOO>) {}
DB<3> x close FOO
0 ''
DB<4> p $? >> 8
6
