Our professor taught us that programming languages used symbols (or keywords), that sometimes looked like English words, but that was purely a coincidence - they weren't, and one shouldn't derive the function of a keyword from the meaning of an English word that looked like it. I think that was a valuable lessons. I always think of the 'tr' operator as the 'tee-ar operator'. Abigail
