I'm not sure if this is a bug, as perhaps I'm
misunderstanding something, but I was wondering about the
binary compatibility between 5.8.2 and 5.8.0. I have two
such Win32 builds, the 5.8.0 one based on ActivePerl 806
sources, and the 5.8.2 one based on the CPAN sources. The
perl -V appears at the end.
Using 5.8.2, I built XML::LibXML (from the cvs sources),
which needs libxml2. This I built from libxml2-2.5.11, using
the default configuration for, in particular, native Win32
thread safety. In building XML::LibXML against this
libxml2.dll, some changes in LibXML.xs were needed for the
declarations of certain functions in order to be compatible
with LIBXML_THREAD_ENABLED being defined; these changes I
took directly from <libxml/globals.h>. The build was
successful, and all supplied tests passed.
>From this 5.8.2 build, I then made up a XML-LibXML ppm
package, and installed it on an ActivePerl 806 (based
on perl-5.8.0). However, from this Perl
perl -MXML::LibXML -e "print 1"
produces the error
The procedure entry point Perl_Ihash_seed_ptr
could not be located in the dll perl58.dll
Should I have expected binary compatibility? Thanks.
For the 5.8.0 build, perl -V:
