(or rsync -avz --delete ftp.linux.activestate.com::perl-5.8.x perl-5.8.x)

Schwern said that it would be okay to go RC5 without new releases of
MakeMaker and base.pm, what blead/maint have is basically okay by him.

Similarly, there's nothing drastically wrong with the current state of
File::Spec, if I am not mistaken.

Regarding the *sigh* modperl *sigh*. What should we do with the
elusive modperl problems?

My opinion is that we can't let them hold up 5.8.1 forever and I would
appreciate your opinions on the preferred length of "forever". While
I would hate myself if I released 5.8.1 that is known to have problems
with modperl, I am also beginning to think that hating myself is maybe
not that bad after all.

Basically, without the modperl problems I would go RC5 within the
next 24 hours.

Changes since the last:

Add a separate faq entry for int(). (Yes, a bit redundant
with the existing "why are my numbers broken" entry.)

             [ 21205]
             Minuscule code cleanup.

             [ 21206]
Apparently at some point doing 3-arg open with
illegal mode like ">>>" had stopped croaking.

             [ 21207]
Layer names were recognized by their prefixes
             (e.g. open(F, ":u", "file") worked...)

             [ 21208]
The "perlio: " prefix looks a little odd
in the few warning/error messages, since
             no other 'subsystems' have prefixes.

             [ 21209]
             More PerlIO warnings changes.
