with bleadperl, configured with ithreads :

[rafael@dat tsrc]$ ./perl -Ilib -MO=Deparse -e '@x=split/x/,$y'
Can't call method "isa" without a package or object reference at lib/B/Deparse.pm line 1105.
CHECK failed--call queue aborted.

[rafael@dat tsrc]$ ./perl -Ilib -MO=Concise -e '@x=split/x/,$y'
7  <@> leave[1 ref] vKP/REFC ->(end)
1     <0> enter ->2
2     <;> nextstate(main 1 -e:1) v ->3
6     <@> split[t4] vK ->7
Can't use string ("1") as a SCALAR ref while "strict refs" in use at lib/B/Concise.pm line 523.
CHECK failed--call queue aborted.
