CPAN working directory, is what?
Message ID:
So what, exactly, is the working directory in CPAN -- it isn't
documented in "perldoc cpan" nor "man cpan" (which seem to produce
identical output).

Is there some reason why I wouldn't want this to be on a ramdisk
or in /tmp?

I do, FYI, have a /share/CPAN which is a rsync'ed mirror of
the CPAN source archive and there is a '/share/CPAN/build', but
since /share/CPAN was intended to be a common CPAN source for
multiple, heterogeneous, perl installations, it doesn't seem
right that /share/CPAN/build would be also shared amongst all the
perl installations since they aren't ABI compatible.
