Thanks for the explanation; it makes sense. Sadly, it won't help me because to be truly useful, the core changes must Just Work(TM) on any random module without having to load the compatibility module ( i.e. "use version;"). Perhaps before the 5.10 release, someone can go through and make sure that the core PM's don't use underscores any more.
