Looking it over some more, I've put back in two references. The first is the reference to C & Pascal's blockless conditionals. Having it there better explains why we're talking about blockless conditionals and Perl not having them, a common enough question to make it worth discussing. The other is putting the direct link to the C preprocessor back into the discussion of the rather baroque line directives which do require some context. I reverse the sentence shifting the emphesis to Perl rather than C. Otherwise, all is the same as before.
