Net::FTP error when using 4 dotted ip addresses

Hi -

I'm attempting to use Net::FTP thusly

	    my $ftp = Net::FTP->new( $ip, Port => $camera[ 1 ] )
				  or die "Can't connect: $@\n";
	    $ftp->login( $s[ 2 ],$s[ 3 ] ) or die "Couldn't login\n";
	    $ftp->get( '/tmp/jpg/1/320x240.jpg',$fileName ) or die "couldn't get
and put";
	    $ftp->quit;

When I assign $ip as
	my $ip = "123.123.123.123";, it works.

When I assign $ip from a variable whose source is a data file, I get the
following error:

Insecure dependency in connect while running with -T switch at
/usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/i686-linux/IO/Socket.pm line 108.

The variable unquestionably contains a valid ip address (I am printing it to
STDERR).

Can anyone help me? I would be eternally grateful.

Thank you,
Charley Walter
