Greetings. For the past few weeks i've been trying to find information on how to get the perl buildsystem to cross-compile. After much reading, searching and bugging (and general annoyance) to those in london.pm it was conculded that the perl build system (currently) has no facility to cross-compile. My interest in it primarily is for perl on my pda, packages existed already which were effectively re-packaged debian packages. The most advanced OS for the Zaurus (http://www.openzaurus.org/) only accepts packages which can be cross-compiled from source. They have Python, Ruby, Tcl but no perl due to the lack of cross-compiling. I have succeeded in getting perl to cross-compile and my heavily bastardised buildsystem is now in the OS source tree. It can build perl to multiple new targets. Consequently, OpenZaurus now has perl in its packages feed. I am posting this here in case anyone can make any use of this. I don't claim that its pretty, It works. I doubt any of it could be used in the current perl buildsystem. It was an "enlightening" experience. I have a huge list of things that i've learned about the perl buildsystem, could make a vaugly decient lightning talk. RedThread Next
