Thanks, applied (to the maint-5.8 branch as change #19106, it'll get
from there to the bleadperl branch when I get to it).  Some comments:

Four metaconfig units, in fact, but I now updated them.

Yeah, it should, but the reentrant functions are such a mess of
nonportability that I am not eager to add any more probes for them
into Configure (the _r prototype probing is the only part of the puzzle
that I feel comfortable with having it in Configure).
