possible bug regarding (?#text)

This comes from a discussion in freenode#perl:

With v5.6.1 built for i386-linux:

    fxn@malacaton:~$ perl -ce '/(?#foo/)/'
syntax error at -e line 1, at EOF
    -e had compilation errors.

With v5.8.0 built for i386-linux-thread-multi, and v5.8.0 built for
i686-linux:

    fxn@conway:~$ perl -ce '/(?#foo/)/'
panic: constant overflowed allocated space at -e line 1.

Do you think that syntax should be valid?

I have searched bugs.perl.org but found nothing. If it wasn't meant to
be valid then maybe it would be a good idea to say something about the
delimiter in the entry about (?#text) in perlop.
