Follow this steps and you should be OK:

1. unpack the 5.6.1 distribution
2. cd to the perl5.6.1 directory
3. $ cp makedepend.SH makedepend.SH.orig
4. $ sed 's/<stdin>/<.*>/' makedepend.SH.orig > makedepend.SH
5. $ ./Configure
6. $ make test

(the '$' is the shell prompt)
