I just noticed I forgot footnote 1.  :^)  So, without further delay...

[1] This is a weird sort of backwards-compatible.  In this case, we're
taking a construct with no defined behavior and giving it behavior, but
I'm afraid that this new behavior will be confusing to people who try to
use it when they can't--or worse, download modules they don't even know
uses it.  That's why I asked if there's a different word for this sort
of thing.
