To avoid the Backporting Nightmare ?

Well, the B::* perl modules could be backported to the CPAN.
This needs to be done with care for backwards-compatibility.
The B API has evolved (almost) in parallel with the internals.
B would be harder to backport IMHO.

What's needed to achieve this properly is : a complete test suite for
the B API.
