Yes, this one failure is known.  Or, rather, a "failure".  It actually
works fine, its just the test (or encoding.pm, really) that mistakenly
(but understandably) thinks that maintperl is still 5.8.0 (simple
testing against $]).  This problem will go away in time when I either
decided to bump PERL_SUBVERSION or Dan finds a clean way to
differentiate between vanilla 5.8.0 and this "version in limbo"
between 5.8.0 and 5.8.1.
