warnings.t & strap-analyze.t on Cygwin curiosity

Hallo,

At first I apologize for writing personally to you all,
but I already tried to send to perl5-porters and it did not
show up (at least it did not came back to me).

Then I apologize for coming up that late with this issue.

Now the facts:

I saw that I always have PERLIO=perlio defined in the global
environment. I changed this to PERLIO=stdio: still failings,
then I changed it to PERLIO="" and the tests succeeds. Also
not defining PERLIO in the environment lets the test succeed.

I don't understand this, obviously there are three different
modes possible? I have this setting here because it is a relict
from perl-5.6.1, there I used to define PERLIO=stdio for some reason
and now as perl-5.8 has PERLIO integrated and activated as default I
thought it cannot hurt to have it like this: PERLIO=perlio

Well, it seems it hurts. My questions are now, what is the difference
of having defined PERLIO=perlio and not define PERLIO at all?

If there is a PERLIO problem then it should be possible to reproduce
it on all platforms?

Try one:
========
  %ENV:
    PERLIO="perlio"
    CYGWIN="ntsec binmode tty nowinsymlinks"

$ (cd buildperl/t;./perl harness ../lib/Test/Harness/t/strap-analyze.t)
[...]
Failed Test Stat Wstat Total Fail Failed List of Failed
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.../lib/Test/Harness/t/strap-analyze.t    1   256    63    1   1.59%  2
Failed 1/1 test scripts, 0.00% okay. 1/63 subtests failed, 98.41% okay.

(cd buildperl/t;./perl harness ../lib/warnings.t)
[...]
Failed Test Stat Wstat Total Fail Failed List of Failed
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.../lib/warnings.t              471    3   0.64%  403-405
Failed 1/1 test scripts, 0.00% okay. 3/471 subtests failed, 99.36% okay.

Try two:
========
  %ENV:
    PERLIO="stdio"
    CYGWIN="ntsec binmode tty nowinsymlinks"

$ (cd buildperl/t;./perl harness ../lib/warnings.t)
[...]
Failed Test Stat Wstat Total Fail Failed List of Failed
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.../lib/Test/Harness/t/strap-analyze.t    1   256    63    1   1.59%  2
Failed 1/1 test scripts, 0.00% okay. 1/63 subtests failed, 98.41% okay.

$ (cd buildperl/t;./perl harness ../lib/warnings.t)
[...]
Failed Test Stat Wstat Total Fail Failed List of Failed
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
.../lib/warnings.t              471    3   0.64%  403-405
Failed 1/1 test scripts, 0.00% okay. 3/471 subtests failed, 99.36% okay.

Try three:
==========
 %ENV:
   PERLIO=""
   CYGWIN="ntsec binmode tty nowinsymlinks"

$ (cd buildperl/t;./perl harness ../lib/Test/Harness/t/strap-analyze.t)
.../lib/Test/Harness/t/strap-analyze....ok
All tests successful.
Files=1, Tests=63,  8 wallclock secs ( 1.60 cusr +  3.29 csys =  4.89 CPU)

$ (cd buildperl/t;./perl harness ../lib/warnings.t)
.../lib/warnings....ok
All tests successful.
Files=1, Tests=471, 187 wallclock secs (37.39 cusr + 70.31 csys = 107.70 CPU)

Try four:
=========
  %ENV:
    CYGWIN="ntsec binmode tty nowinsymlinks"

$ (cd buildperl/t;./perl harness ../lib/Test/Harness/t/strap-analyze.t)
.../lib/Test/Harness/t/strap-analyze....ok
All tests successful.
Files=1, Tests=63,  8 wallclock secs ( 1.50 cusr +  3.19 csys =  4.69 CPU)

$ (cd buildperl/t;./perl harness ../lib/warnings.t)
.../lib/warnings....ok
All tests successful.
Files=1, Tests=471, 194 wallclock secs (39.92 cusr + 73.93 csys = 113.85 CPU)
