The speed of tie() and the idea of clamping are orthogonal. I don't believe
that tie is too slow, therefore I have no urgent need to speed it up; if other
people do think it's too slow, I'd love to see them make it faster.

It seems we want to apply less-than-general solutions to specific problems,
which is a great leap backwards for Perl development.
