Hmmm. Duplicate keys just aren't working at all! It's almost as if the
duplicate flag was being ignored.

If you still have the db_stat utility that gets built as part of Berkeley
DB, could you run it against the database file that the script created
please?

Usage for what I need is:

    db_stat -d filename

The important part is the "Flags" line. It should look like this:

   Flags: duplicates
