 If you go into the CPAN site and open "binary distributions", then at the
top of the resulting page you get some pungent advice:

  "I strongly suggest that you compile Perl yourself from the source code
distribution. This way you always get the latest Perl and you can configure
Perl as you like and you avoid the security risks inherent in installing
binary distributions."

  Reading that I just knew that I had to do what I had to do!

  P.S. If this email has been duplicated then my apologies. Here I've been
using Mozilla on Linux for mail, and this version is a bit wobbly.

  P.P.S. Mozilla refused to put my previous emails into its 'Sent' folder
and I have had to assume that they were never dispatched. So I am making a
third attempt - with mutt, which I have only just set up and do not feel
completely confident about. Don't you just hate bad-mail-days?
