makedef.pl:try_symbol and /^[A-Za-z]/

In order to build Storable on MacPerl, I need three symbols from sfio which
begin with a "_" (_sfflsbuf, _stdsprintf, _sffilbuf).  makedef.pl doesn't
like symbols that begin with _.  Thoughts?  Could I change try_symbol to
allow _?
