Just an FYI, I did a little bit of benchmarking between bleadperl with perlio (and compiled for debugging I might add) and 5.6.1 w/o perlio compiled with optimizations. Nothing rock solid, mostly just running big tests like warnings.t. and numconvert.t, etc... No noticable performance difference. There were some worries that perlio was going to slow things down.
