What I'll do is to apply your patch (plus the tiny corrections), and
rename the distinct pragma to unicode::distinct, but I'll not yet
add the new tests because of the maintainability issue I mentioned,
and because I saw a couple of failures. Not that the failures couldn't
be my fault (some changes I've applied since @8223).
