Your patches were linewrapped and even after fixing them patch didn't
like them, even with --ignore-whitespace, so I had to apply them by hand.

[[:control:]] *should* detect them, be it locale or UTF-8.
Well, as soon as I fix UTF-8 character classes, but that's
another story to scare small children with.
