EOL/^M patch for pre-5.6.0 versions?

Is there any hope of getting a patch for 5.005_03 for the problem ^M's in
pod docs? Since it is becoming more common for modules to contain them and
so many are still using 5.005 or earlier Perl, it might be nice to have a
patch for it extracted from the code for 5.6.0 where the problem has
apparently been addressed. This would also be helpful for search.cpan as
if a module has these offending characters, the pod is reported missing
and upgrading to 5.6.0 isn't an attractive option.
