That could get messy fast - probably better to mess with perlstdio.h 
to define : 

#define PERLIO_NOT_STDIO 0

rather than 

#define PERLIO_NOT_STDIO 1

for 'CORE'

- or just wait a day or two till I have it cleaned up.
