I prefer to do:

cd .../bleadperl
mkdir ../bleadperl@<highest number in Changes>
find . | cpio -pdmv ../bleadperl@<highest number in Changes>
cd ../bleadperl@<highest number in Changes>
cp ../ .
./Configure -de -Dusedevel
... etc ..

Then I always have a clean, up-to-date master copy.
