Yes there is interest in this -- judging by the number of posts in other
forums that I have seen concerning folks' trials with .rpm, .deb, package,
etc. distributions of perl.  I was aware of the ppd target for ppm, but
until you mentioned it I did not know that ppm itself was not widely
available.  That seems a shame.
