FWIW here is the id:

 % uname -a
 OSF1 aspara.forte.com V5.0 910 alpha

 % grep V /etc/motd
 Digital UNIX V5.0 (Rev. 910); Wed Dec 15 12:59:37 PST 1999
                     Compaq Tru64 UNIX V5.0 [Rev. 910]

Is there a way to #define around the problem, or perhaps a system ECO?

I am also quite curious about why Configure's i_* tests didn't
pick up "the" correct value, although it could be indirectly
#included via some devious route that only config.h exposes.
