Frankly, I still think it's a good idea, present tense. But I'm also
still not sure if it's the best idea, which is why I reserve
judgement. We will likely have ?? or something like it someday,
opinions to the contrary notwithstanding. But if people are going to
continue to love Perl for what it is (at every level of abstraction), I
find it's valuable to slow down the pace of core change as Perl grows
up, and that means I let people chew on things longer. And it is an
unfortunate fact of human nature that folks can't get their ideas
chewed on without feeling a bit chewed on themselves. Goes with the
territory. Hang in there, and keep on chewin'. :-)
Good marriages work this way too, by the way. I love my wife differently
than I did at the beginning, but I certainly don't love her any less.
