increase efficiency of & proto'd subroutines

Is it possible to allow the & prototype (if the first argument to a
function, to accept a Perl expression (as do map and grep)?  I have
absolutely no idea how difficult this would be to implement, but if we
could have prototyped subroutines that use expressions, then would the
efficiency of executing the expression vs. the code reference be there
like it is for map and grep?
