[ID 20000406.009] strings + number = undefined?
Message ID:

This is a bug report for perl from sn@neopoly.de,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.26 running under perl 5.00503.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[Please enter your report here]
Adding strings to numbers gives different results on different
platforms. It seems that the behaviour is not documented and therefore
undefined.
The script used was:
perl -e 'print "0x5" + 0, "\n";'
This results in
1.25 on my system (linux 2.2.14, glibc 2.1.2, perl 5.005_03
0 on Solaris 7
0 on HP-UX 10.x, Perl 5.004_03
0 on MacPerl
0 on FreeBSD 4.0-RELEASE, perl 5.005_03
It seems only the Linux version has a value other than 0.
Is this a bug in perl, glibc or linux?
