I think the change of version number scheme had a psychological effect on people as well, disguising the fact that it's only a subversion update. My, it should be nearly 600 times better than the previous release! -- Sigh. I like to think it's just the Linux people who want to be on the "leading edge" so bad they walk right off the precipice.
