The attached patch contains numerous configure, build and test fixes, and a couple of bug fixes in core vms code. Some parts of it appeared on p5p earlier today or yesterday, but much of it appeared and was discussed for the first time today on vmsperl. The contributors were Dan Sugalski, Peter Prymmer, and Charles Lane. This should create a working Perl, albeit with some remaining test failures. More aggressive changes by Chuck Lane to address the remaining issues are under discussion but not ready yet. The patch is gzipped and uuencoded, file name case munged by hand; let me know of any difficulties. It should be applied with -p 1.
