Having been on the list for a while now silently watching, I do agree
that it's both very intimidating and very troublesome to see so much
hostility fly back and forth.

It's quite possible people with something valid to contribute have
left in disgust or frustration.

Perhaps such an atmosphere grows from a lot of people having been here
for a long time and have become comfortable with each other, but as
someone who isn't in this clique it can be quite intimidating.

Unfortunately, the rowdies in the audience tend to out-shout those who
are much more tolerable.  One rant about someone's inadequacies
out-states a hundred calm, clear-thought posts to someone who isn't a
member of the "family."

Some of us stick with it and don't give up, but I'm certain there are
people who have not contributed publicly here out of intimidation.
