There's already a module that tries harder to give a "useful" answer to
the question "what name should I use to refer to this machine?", I think

I really think it's not too much too ask that perl's gethostname() maps
to C's gethostname(), if only to enable whatever fancy module you want
to get at the raw data.

The idea is that the first face shown to people is one they can readily
accept - a more traditional logo. The lunacy element is only revealed
