I don't really care if your system can't provide a sane answer.
That's *your*fricking*idiotic*problem*.   POSIX has uname, which
even if problematic, jolly well ought to be there.  If C library
is missing gethostname, and if your POSIX library is missing uname,
and if your shell tools are missing hostname, then you can bloody
well write your own patch the module that provides for what makes
sense to you, because nobody else could care less.  Stop getting
in the way of providing something that provides the cheap, intuitive,
useful, obvious, and *EXPECTED* answer to most programmers.  Your
OS/2 ghetto is your own infernal choice.
