The first line of the perl bible is: "perl is a language for getting your job done." flame-fests do nothing to forward this conversation. There is a need to hash out the details in specifically how perl will get your job done, but that is distinct and separate from name calling, character assasination, and arrogance. If you find yourself repeating your position, re-explaining your reasons, and restating your case, a good question to ask yourself at that point is this: "Am I helping to get someone's job done, or am I just being righteous about my opinions?" The idea "there's more than one way to do it" could be looked at as "there's no singular right way to do it." If you find yourself using sarcasm, name calling, and wise*ss remarks against someone because they are proposing to do something "wrong" to perl, then you've missed the point of perl. if you are attached to specifically how something is done via perl, then you have gotten in the way of perl being about getting someone else's job done. ***perl is not about your ego.*** Its about someone using perl to get their job done. in short, for the love of perl, peace!
