what is this /* ... */ stuff?

I believe it was Abigail who posted this in clpm:

  my ($width, /*$depth,*/ $height);

as a way of commenting in Perl.

I ask, "guh?"

I don't get it... is that going to be new to 5.6?  Or were they just
kidding around, or what?  I'm puzzled.  Perhaps misled.
