     why:

    I wrote some code based on Bob Bemer's "xday" idea for dealing with
    Y2K date formatting. It's based on an offset from the Lillian date
    that IBM used way back when, allowing you to specify a date using a
    6-digit integer.

    It doesn't need a 7th digit until the year 3501, and it makes doing
    date arithmetic from the shell about as simple as it gets.

    It's a C program, and I have a pure-perl version, but I'd like to
    make a version using XS. I was hoping to use the name "Date::Xday",
    as it doesn't look like that's taken yet.
