Caveat maximus emptor: this should only be considered a preliminary
stab at the problem to get the ball rolling, and I won't release it
until a bit of stability and consensus will have settled in. At this
point, everything can be reconsidered and no reasonable suggestion,
forks or patches will be turned down.
