I agree. Get in there, have a go, and enjoy it. Don't worry about
what people may think. The best way I know to improve your Perl
is to submit your code for public review. Yes, it hurts sometimes,
but it will definitely improve your Perl!
In your case Bill, I actually admire the way you kept plugging away
until you got a working solution. And I admired Dave Hoover in the
last game for the same reason. Also, you definitely were not at the
bottom because I received a number of beginner entries with worse
scores than you but which failed the test program.
