The proposed module Date::MySQL was renamed MySQL::DateFormat and is
available on CPAN.

Information on it is also available at
http://www.tonkinresolutions.com/software/perl/MySQL/DateFormat

(The first big flurry of activity on datetime@perl.org since this thread
happened[!] drove some people to want to take a look at this work. I saw
this when I began to see a lot of 404s on my webserver from folk looking
under the old proposed nomenclature. I've put in some RedirectMatch
statements but wanted to get this into the archives.)
