does anyone have any substantive or even anecdotal data regarding 
the feasability of using a "meta language" to generate code on this
scale?  

it has a lot of "whiteboard" appeal, but it seems that in practice it
might be extremely time-consuming and problematic, as opposed to just
writing it in C.
