Actually, Dick's group *is* about identifying concerns of large Perl shops that need to be addressed in Perl6. If removing formats is going to cause hellish amounts of pain in very big perl shops, then we need to know that before they're removed from the language. Dick's role is to let the implementers know what people find important about Perl. Scouring CPAN and Freshmeat may give us one answer. Asking large Perl shops may give us a different answer.
