It's consensus among all pause admins that a reasonable timeframe for reserving a namespace before uploading is something between 3 months and a year or so. The reason why reserved namespaces do not get unregistered automatically is the effort it takes to do this. It's certainly something that we admins regret not having done all the years and I renew this task in my Todo list as something important.
