That would be lovely.  So I can quit the 'echo die > Makefile.PL' thing?

Except for the old versions.  Oops.

There's still this trouble with nobody upgrading before attempting to 
upgrade, right?


How about placing a bounty on a hack that forces an automatic upgrade to 
a sufficiently old installer?


On that note:  interesting CPAN.pm feature:
     if (lc($prefer_installer) eq "rand") {
         $prefer_installer = rand()<.5 ? "eumm" : "mb";
