I apologize for the lack of action--it's not been because the patches 
are bad, it's been because I've been out of touch for most of the 
week, and I'm about to go missing again until next week some time.

Patches that fix code are fine and can be applied if the folks with 
commit privs think they're either reasonable or less unreasonable 
than what was there.
