Ah, right. I had a distinct memory of someone talking about the same
thing. You used the constant flag and mentioned the problem with it,
and I remember when I rediscovered the same problem that I had a sense
of vicarious deja vu. If that's possible. I just assumed that whatever
it was, it had already been committed.

The constant flag seems rather important. I still think activating the
refcount bits would be the best approach for now, possibly later
moving to an additional container in the root set. (P32 anyone?)

Wow, you've got a couple of major patches floating around that are
getting ignored. I don't feel so bad now. :-)
